CyanogenMod to introduce protected UI for Android users

CyanogenMod is working on releasing a new feature as part of the upcoming update for Android users. The new feature will enable the users to assign a protected status for any of the apps on their smartphone. This list will also incorporate the pre- loaded system apps.

Users can have a protected folder on their desktop and can drop the apps they want in that folder. As soon as the user protects the app, then he will not be able to launch that app directly or even via Chrome or Play Store without proper authentication.

Users can also set the pattern of authentication according to their preferences. For instance, a user can assign a PIN password, pattern or even use their fingerprint for authentication. The company is still working on this feature and has not yet made any official announcement about the same.

Last week, CyanogenMod also revealed that it is shutting down its secure message functionality WhisperPush. This is a secure messaging service which automatically encrypts the text messages between two CyanogenMod users. Users will no longer be able to receive or send regular messages using WhisperPush after 1st February.
