Pokémon Go may have full access to your entire Google account

Weirdly, Niantic [Labs] won’t let you just create one – you need to sign in with an existing account from one of two services – the pokemon.com website or Google.

Players have the option of logging onto the popular app with their Gmail account.

“On average, users are spending twice the amount of time engaged with Pokémon Go than they are on apps like Snapchat”.

Three US teenagers who allegedly robbed almost a dozen victims by luring them to secluded areas using the Pokemon Go smartphone app have been charged, with a fourth referred to juvenile services.

Adam Reeve, a computer security expert at the cybersecurity firm RedOwl, was the first to discover this. “It’s certainly enough that I would recommend anyone affected to revoke permissions through Google and uninstall the app”.

“It’s really fun. We’ve had a rivalry with all our friends to see who could find more”, says Allessandra Swart, of Belmar.

Parents have praised the app for encouraging children to play outside, albeit with an electronic device, and users have said it has enabled them to explore the areas around them more.

“This “Full account access” privilege should only be granted to applications you fully trust, and which are installed on your personal computer, phone, or tablet”, the help page adds. But Guido, as well as two of my colleagues at Motherboard, confirmed that when they signed up with their iPhones the app got full access to their accounts.

Considering the amount of server issues the mobile title has suffered through since its launch, it is somewhat understandable to delay the game’s worldwide release.

When reached by Kotaku, a representative for Niantic declined to comment.
