WhatsApp beta to gain group invite links, group NFC tags, drawing on pictures and more
WhatsApp developers have been hard at work with almost daily updates on their beta channel on Google Play store and the WhatsApp beta for iOS. The pace of updates and newer features has increased after the opening of the beta release channel for general users on Android.
The latest features soon to roll out in the beta channel include the introduction of group invite links where web links are generated for any group that you make so that people can join the group just by tapping on the link. This has removed the prerequisite exchange of contact details in theory to be a part of the group. In addition to the introduction of web links for groups, joining groups just by scanning a QR code or tapping an NFC tag is also possible now.
Another feature to roll out soon is the ability to scribble or doodle over photos that you send with WhatsApp. Both the group web links and doodling on photos are hidden features that have been enabled and reported by @WABetaInfo on Twitter. According to WABetaInfo, the reports of WhatsApp working on integrating Apple Music are inaccurate and instead the company was working on an improved implementation of media sharing.
Other hidden features disabled by developers include new profile section, option to share information to Facebook, video calling on WhatsApp, mentions in WhatsApp chat and sharing any type of file through the app and an in-app browser. There are no major changes on the UI front except normal changes of removing older components of UI to be replaced by newer components and improvements in the creating new group interface.
The company has also stopped supporting devices (still) running on Android 2.2 Eclair.
