Root Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with SuperSU

The newest Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone can now be rooted thanks to SuperSU by Chainfire. Although the new phone brings amazing hardware and the software is up to par as well but root remains to be a utility used by many. Samsung has implemented multiple new Knox features and has addressed different exploits in its new Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS for the Note 7. What this means is, it is now more complicated to gain root. However, Chainfire was hard at work and has released a Beta SuperSU which works on the Note 7. Once you root, you will gain access to all the root apps available on the Play Store. However, it should be noted that you do need a custom recovery like TWRP pre-installed. SuperSU is one of our favourite rooting package as it comes with all the binaries needed to gain root access on your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Android phone. Even the SuperSU app has more features than SuperUser. Other than this rooting tutorial, you might also want to install a custom recovery for installing custom ROMs on your phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 USB Drivers

Always backup your important data that you might need after you install a new custom ROM, an official software update or anything else. Make a backup for just in case, you never know when anything might go wrong. See below for some tips on how to backup data:

Backup Contacts, Gmail and Google Data. How? –> Sync with Google Sync.

Backup APN Settings: GPRS, 3G, MMS Settings. How? Note down everything from: Settings > Wireless & Networks (More…) > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
Samsung users can also back up data using Samsung KIES. If you backup data manually, you get more options what to choose from and it is very easy to move data across Android devices from different manufacturers, i.e moving Samsung Galaxy Note 3 backup data to Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

A few more optional tips that you should remember:

4. Most of the tutorials and how-to guides on Team Android are for factory unlocked Android phones and tablets. We recommend NOT to try our guides if your phone is locked to a carrier, unless we have specified the carrier name or device model.

5. Your bootloader should be unlocked.



How to Root Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with SuperSU Package on Android 6.0

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to root Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with SuperSU. Please read every line carefully below. We suggest that you should read the tutorial once before actually performing it on your phone.

To Remember:

This root method tutorial is only for Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Please don’t try this on any other variants of the phone.
Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.
This will void your warranty.
HTC Sync should be installed as it comes with the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone drivers.
Bootloader should be unlocked.
Custom Recovery should be installed. — How To Install TWRP on Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
If you have fulfilled all the requirements above, then proceed to the actual tutorial.

Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:

NOTE: You need to have a custom recovery installed on your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 i.e. ClockworkMod or TWRP Recovery before proceeding below.

Step 1 –Download SuperSU Root (BETA-SuperSU-v2.77-20160827190633.zip) for Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to your computer.

Step 2 – Connect your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to your computer using the USB cable.

Step 3 – Now copy/paste the downloadedBETA-SuperSU-v2.77-20160827190633.zip file to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the SD card root (not in any folder).

Step 4 – Then turn OFF your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.

Step 5 – Now to get in the Recovery Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Power buttons together. Alternatively, read this: How to Enter Recovery Mode on Any Android Phone.

Step 6 – Once you are in the Recovery Mode, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the Power button to select it.

Step 7 – Press the Power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”.

Step 8 – Now using your volume keys, navigate to the BETA-SuperSU-v2.77-20160827190633.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation should start now.

Step 9 – After the installation completes, go to main recovery menu and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now“. Your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will reboot now!

That’s it. Your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has now been rooted on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with SuperSU package. Check for the SuperSU app in your apps list to verify.
